The Best Fish Tacos in DC

Posted July 31st, 2009 in Snappy Casual, Super Casual | Permalink | 2 Comments »

Ian asks: I just had some really mediocre fish tacos at a place I won’t name.  Let’s just say Vandekamps came to mind. Where do you recommend I go next time?

fish-tacosMy hairstylist at Parlour (hi Vivian!) was practically asking for an intervention because she can’t pass Tackle Box in Georgetown without getting at least one fish taco.  Did I mention this is on her commute?  So I had to try it for myself and found her addiction totally understandable.  Intervention cancelled!  More great fish tacos can be found at Surfside in Glover Park and Argonaut on the H Street NE strip.  On the go?  People say that Baja Fresh gets the job done nicely with either breaded or grilled fish.

Shop Off That August Heat at Dog Days!

It’s time for the annual 14/U Street (now often referred to as “mid-city”) festival, so appropriately called the Dog Days of Summer! Get amazing deals from stores like Muleh, Home Rule, RCKNDY, and more! And according to Yelp, there will be DJ training from Words, Beats and Life, a local youth organization on Sunday, Aug 2nd.  DJ DC Concierge… I like the sound of that.

DC Goes Old School with a Pimm’s Cup

Tracy asks: My brother in NYC just introduced me to the Pimms Cup.  Where do they have these in DC?

I LOVE the Pimms Cup and all of the veggie goodness garnish! For those not in-the-know…

pimms

Bourbon in Adams Morgan is famous for this drink!  Also, I just saw the Pimms Cup on the menu of the new H Street Country Club in NE (along with their locally unmatched tequila list).   Washingtonian declares Founding Farmers‘ Pimms Cup “one of the best around.”    I can’t imagine this cocktail can’t be done fabulously by DC’s most famous mixologist Adam Bernbach… now found at Proof!

Need a New Dinner Date?

eight-at-eight-dinner-club-4-men-4-women-for-dinner

I’m loving the concept of Eight at Eight for the singles scene in DC!  You fill out an application online and they’ll match your interests with a group of four guys and four girls for a pressure-less meal.  Simple as that!  Okay, yes, there is a membership fee, but so does Match, J-Date, and where ever else the singles are hanging online these days.  People describe the dinners as “fun” and “relaxed,” and I scrolled through the pics and wasn’t pleasantly surprised to find the crowds quite good looking.  Worst case, you chalk it up as networking.  This is DC after all!
