The DC Singles Scene
Posted December 8th, 2008 in Business Casual, Dressy, Power suit, Slutty, Snappy Casual, Super Casual | PermalinkOne of the most common questions that I get asked is: What bars / happy hours in [X] atmosphere are good for meeting [women/men] in [Y] age group?
Let’s settle this once and for all, shall we?
Setting aside all of the great, organized opportunities from groups like Professionals in the City and Things to Do DC, here are my picks for good, old-fashioned pick-up scenes. Keep in mind that optimal timing in DC is happy hour, and so I’ve left out the clubby clubs, where people don’t get going till 11pm and it’s kinda hard to talk anyway.

The Front Page is fun from Thurs-Sat. Usually a good crowd but not terribly crowded. Not a huge fan of the music, if you like hip-hop top 40 you’ll enjoy it. Lucky bar is a chill place to go. Usually start with more rock in the earlier night, hop-hop later on. Gets crowded, but there is an upstairs part as well.

Washingtonian Magazine is doing a new online feature chronicling the lives of 5 or 6 singles as they date in DC. I’ve come away with a better understanding of the DC dating scene as well as several good date ideas: http://www.washingtonian.com/blogs/capitalcomment/dating%20diaries/index.html

I say Wonderland runs more 25+ than strictly thirtysomething. Although, if you go to the dance party on Friday or Saturday night there are more and more kids (21-24)showing up.
