Best Sushi in DC!

Erica-America asks:  I owe my friend for getting me credentials for the entire RNC.  Any recommendations for the best sushi in DC?

Your coverage of the RNC was awesome, so let’s take good care of this anonymous benefactor!!!   Go to Kaz Sushi Bistro for truly unique and award winning sushi.  SushiKo in upper Georgetown is also delicious – totally fab, totally fresh – but a bit more casual in atmosphere.  But Sushi Taro in Dupont, although lacking in ambiance, is the place all the asian diplomats hit, a very good sign!  Oh, and can’t neglect my new favorite – Sticky Rice, but probably not the most appropriate venue for a business dinner.

I second all your recommendations, and have a few favorites to add: Uni in Dupont, Sake Club in Woodley Park, and Murasaki in Tenleytown.

Yes yes yes!! I totally agree! I haven’t tried Sticky Rice yet, but I’ll be heading over there sometime soon!

Every year I look forward to the all-you-can-eat-gorge-fest at Sushi Taro during the Cherry Blossom Fest!

SushiKo serves a good $60 omakase. However, they’ve got so many chefs it’s tough to get a consistent experience.

Sushi Taro omakase is only meh. I like the fun atmosphere and table service is good, but 45 minute wait times in that little stairwell are lame.

Still gotta give Sticky Rice a shot.

Sticky Rice is the best, hands down.

I have to say, I love Sake Club in Woodley Park. Always fresh and delicious, and really nice service. Too late now, but their patio is also lovely.

Mate in Georgetown is surprisingly good as well…

    I’ve never enjoyed Taro.

    Try

    (1) Tono in Woodley before heading out to AdMo

    (2) Aoi if you are downtown (11th St. b/w H and NY Ave.) and would like good quality and large portions

And as another option outside the city … try Sushi Sono in Columbia (town center/waterfront by Clydes). INCREDIBLE

Nori in Columbia Heights just opened and is also amazing. When you first walk in the front door it looks small and empty, but the hostess will lead you to a huge, open space, with high ceilings, chic decoration, and great food and cocktails.
